It's photo time!

Luisa just got a brand new Mac laptop. It's sleek, made entirely of metal, has magnetic ports, is totally free of all microsoft office products -and- it comes with a built in camera!!! It is totally unlike any computer I will ever have the pleasure of using again. So, to celebrate her new purchase, here's a photo!

See how much fun we're having?? Also, my parents visited Boston this weekend. We had dinner at Figs last night and then spent the rest of the evening talking. Oh, I also spent a portion of the weekend with my fantastic new marketing team. Although we had a rocky first period on the PharmaSim simulation, I'm pretty sure that our team dynamics paired with hard work will help us land good marks in this course. Go team!

Doncha' mess w/ me!

Nope, do not even *think* about messing with me. I am one tough mo-fo, and I will put on my Everlast boxing gloves and take you on for ten rounds!!!

I say this because I've been listening to a Beyonce song and it's making me feel tough.

Tough enough to possibly take *3* classes during the fall semester. If I'm up for it, I can knock out the "Business Ethics" class in 2 all-day Saturday sessions. Who's bad??? Huh?

Nightmare on Phillips Street!

So, last night I got a full three and a half hours of sleep. This was due to several factors: 1) my apartment was sweltering hot, 2) I had a medium coffee late in the afternoon, 3) I was stressed out about getting back my Finance mid-term exam. Combined, I was unable to get any decent sleep. Around 4 or 5am, I finally fell asleep and was treated to one of the worse nightmares I've had in a long time: brace yourself.

So, I was in a hallway with about 30 other people, and Cameron Diaz was barking orders at us. See, she had hired us to come to an activist event that she was hosting at the four seasons hotel. I don't remember the cause - it was something like WWF or greenpeace. Anyway, Cameron says "Now, don't mingle. I want you to keep circulating in an out of the banquet hall. Read brochures, sign petitions and leave through door A. Then, circle back around to door B and do it all over again." Basically, Cameron wanted the place to look packed and busy for the press.

Anyway, I hid in the hallway, and Cameron came out looking for me! It was terrifying, so I ran into another room. It was full of lockers, so I hid in one... all I could hear was the sound of Cameron opening the furthest lockers and slamming them shut again. I woke up right before she found me. I couldn't fall back to sleep I was so terrified!

What videogame is your life most like?

I just had a mole removed this afternoon, which means that I can't run for the next 6 business days. Also, it means that I'm home on a Friday afternoon. So, with nothing to do and nowhere to go, I turn to the internet for its unique brand of entertainment. In my travels, I came across outrun.org - a website devoted entirely to the 1980's SEGA racing games.

I can't tell you just how many hours I spent drooling over these sorts of racing games. Also, I'm a sucker for corny RPGs, like the entire Final Fantasy series, but I have never played "Magic: The Gathering" nor have I ever owned an 18-sided die. So stop snickering. It's just a guilty pleasure.
So, here's a screenshot of Outrun 2019 - does it look familiar? Am I showing my age on this one?

Basically, every time I go running, I picture myself as the rocket-powered car in this game. Here's what I see in my mind:

And of course, the other runners are mostly just targets or obstacles. It's all in good fun.

Spring is here, and I'm running again!

Here in Boston it was 50 degrees on Saturday, which is a vast improvement over last week's sub-arctic temperatures. I decided to celebrate the warmer weather by getting out my ugly green adidas track pants and going for a run along the Charles. Of course, it's been about 6 months since I last ran, so after 7 minutes I was gasping for air and limping.

Note that the box marked 'A' is the exact location where I ran out of breath. The dark blue represents true running, the green represents the limp/jog that I endured for the remainder of the loop.

Still, this is the perfect time to start getting back into shape. It's cold enough that most people are still cooped up in health clubs, instead of showing off on the esplanade. I also purchased a knee brace, as everyone in the Webster clan has a bum right knee. Then I updated my iPod for some serious running music.

Today I went for run #2, and I'm pleased to announce that I made it all the way around the upper-portion of the Charles River, running at a decent pace. My map:

I'm not sure exactly how far this is, but it took me about 20 minutes. I then walked for about 15 minutes to cool down.

Last spring I was able to work my way up to the following loop, which took about an hour and really felt like an accomplishment:

So, my goal is to be able to run that loop again by June. Now I promised myself that I wouldn't make any 'athletic resolutions' this year, as I can never force myself to stick with them. Unfortunately, the whole 'dating' resolution is just not looking good at this point, so I'm swapping resolutions. I'm allowing this switch b/c I've been studying at the BU library every other day and I've been cleaning my apartment on a regular schedule. It's only a matter of time before some innocent single steps right in my path, so why sweat things by seeking dates out?
